Remembering The Underprivileged on the World Children’s Day

5,500 children have been killed in Gaza since October 7 while 2,985 were killed in various conflicts globally in 2022 ,2,515 in 2021 and 2,674 in 2020. It is also thought that around 150 million children are homeless globally.

Today is World Children’s Day, which marks the day in 1959 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. On 20 November 1989 the UN also adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child. However, today the position of many children worldwide is not a reason to celebrate.

According to UNICEF, an estimated 333 million children live in extreme poverty while 1 billion are “multidimensionally” poor meaning that they lack necessities such as nutritious food or clean water.
